Alliance Park Memorial
Oil on Panel

The scene attracted me because of the serenity surrounding this lone, granite bench. Who wouldn't want to sit there and contemplate the beautiful view? There was also a lot of contrast in the temperature between the cool of the shade and the water and the very bright sun-filled expanse. I was half way through this painting before I realized that the bench was set up as a memorial to the American Airline pilot from Amesbury who was killed in the 9/11 crash at the World Trade Center in New York. I must admit to having some conflicting feelings about painting this site, not wanting to "intrude." I decided that it was yet another way of memorializing that horror by contrasting it with the spot's serenity.
