Cheryl Dyment lives and works on the north shore of Boston. Her Valley Farm Studio is an oasis of calm, light, and space where her paintings are developed after an initial field start. She often has other artists working there with her and enjoys the opportunity that this space provides her for community and critique. Ms. Dyment gladly will offer a visitor a tour of her studio, home and grounds, by appointment. Valley Farm Studio is located at the nationally registered Deacon Edward Putnam, Jr. House (1705) in Middleton, MA.
Ms. Dyment gave herself permission to paint ten years ago and hasn’t stopped since. Her studies began at Montserrat College of Art and with private and workshop instruction with notable local artists. With a late start, her progression has been full speed ahead, culminating with her induction into the National Association of Women Artists in NYC last year. She shows work regularly at the Newburyport Art Association, Art in the Barn, and other venues in Boston and the local area.
Initially, her paintings were impressionistic in style. They have since progressed to a more personal interpretation of the landscape around her, expressing her own deep appreciation of mood, energy, and atmosphere imparting a visceral understanding of place. Most recently, she exhibited an abstracted series of paintings from the memory of a near-drowning incident.
This show, Local Colors, will feature paintings from work done in her own backyard in Middleton and Danvers, and throughout the county, from Newburyport to Gloucester to Manchester-by-the-Sea, and Hamilton. She delights in finding and painting in spots that are often overlooked and uncelebrated.
